The issue reared it’s head when I started replacing Gen 1 APE’s (and their attached speakers) with HomePods. But I guess that I’m old school and love using my mini. Most everything (with the exception of a Gen 1 AirPort Express) seems to play properly. I’ve been able to stream my music thru ATV, but multi room streaming has it’s own set of issues (that I won’t get into at this time). But AirPlay 2 on a mac appears to be extremely finicky at best. It is running High Sierra (that’s as far as it can go w/o some software high jinks) and I love using it as my music and photos server. A nice little bulletproof machine that I updated early in the pandemic.
